Dog warts, Info and Treatment

Warts aren’t something that only affects humans. They are rife in the animal kingdom too and warts in dogs are a common problem
Warts in dogs are infectious in nature and can spread to other dogs through physical contact. Warts in dogs are epidermis tumors that are caused by many different types of viral infections. Asking pet health questions form an important part of dealing with warts in dogs. Warts in dogs come in two broad categories. Warts infecting older dogs are the most common ones. By nature, warts are benign and only threaten pet health if they get infected or become larger in size. However, warts can damage pet health in younger dogs as they are infectious in nature.
Medically warts are known as Canine viral papilloma. Spread by physical contact with other dogs, your dog can contract this infection rather easily. Small and shaped like cauliflowers these warts populate the muzzle, tongue, eyelids, and lips in dogs, but they can also invade the skin around the rectum or vulva in some others. Warts take about 1-2 months to grow from the time of the contact.
In general, warts are harmless if few in number. They tend to stay on the skin of older dogs, while disappear in younger dogs on their own as the immune system can fight the virus properly. In some dogs, warts can create havoc with pet health and lead to problems in breathing and eating.
Symptoms of Warts in Dogs
1.Halitosis (bad breath)
2.Excessive drooling/ salivating
3.Oral bleeding
Diagnosis of Warts in Dogs
Since papillomas are distinct and pathognomonic in nature, they don’t require diagnostic testing. Nevertheless, in some cases, diagnosis may be necessary to ascertain the extent and depth of the infection as it would reveal the damage done to pet health. Two of the more important diagnostic tests that require to be done are:
FA complete blood count or CBC test, urinalysis, and biochemical profile is necessary for dogs that have lost appetite and have poor pet health as well as prolonged discomfort due to difficultly in food intake.
FIn some cases, the dog may be subjected to surgical biopsy for a proper confirmation. However, it may be required in most cases.
Treatment of Warts in Dogs
Warts don’t require any particular treatment as the viral papillomas disappear on their own. However, in come cases, especially when the warts are located in an area that causes discomfort, or when pet owners demand removal of the warts to restore pet health, treatments can be initiated.
These treatments include:
1.Surgery: cryosurgery, electrocautery are the two main surgical procedure implemented for removal. The former involves destruction by freezing, of the damaged tissue using liquid nitrogen, while the later is the use of laser to kill the papilloma.
2.Another treatment involves crushing the papilloma physically to stimulate an immune response from the body of the pet as this helps restore pet health and expedites the disappearance of the warts.
3.If the dog has failed to relapse after more than 5-6 months, then systemic chemotherapy can help in varying degrees to successfully restore pet health.

How to remove warts then? thankfully there are many wart treatments out there, so many in fact you may be a little spoiled for choice and do not know which one is best! The place to start is to understand the type of wart you have then find the best applicable treatment so let’s take a look!
Verruca Vulgaris
Also known as the common wart this type shows as a thickened bump of skin often with a rough surface that often has small spots from clotted blood vessels. Usually found on the hands, elbow and knees.
Flat Warts
As the name suggests this wart is quite a flat bump on the skin and are usually brown or skin colored. The flat wart is mainly seen mainly on women’s faces.
Plantar Warts
These are a most annoying wart as they grow only on the feet and can be very painful. They tend to be large and flat growing into the skin rather than out of the skin and many cases have reported it spreading too much of the foot making walking and running very difficult.
Genital Warts
These warts are often like common warts though they appear in the region around the genitals. There is a chance that some subtypes of these warts can become cancerous and should be seen by a doctor who can determine if this might be the case!
There are many over the counter remedies that claim they can cure warts but many people find themselves resistant to such treatments and have to rely on more drastic action.
Other such methods of wart removal are cryotherapy where a doctor literally freezes your wart with liquid nitrogen, this kills the growth but not the connecting skin.

The wart is removed then a scab will form for a time and heal naturally leaving the skin clear. This is not a good choice for Plantar warts as the resulting sore from the process is often more painful than the wart itself!
Another method of treatment is using salicylic acid which involves soaking the wart then cutting it slightly to apply the acid. You must keep the surrounding skin safe with petroleum jelly however and this process must be repeated day after day until it is gone. You can get these products over the counter however and do not need to see a doctor.
The choice is yours on how to remove warts and many of you may have tried many remedies before and failed so must search for another one for your particular type of wart. The solution to your wart problem may just be the next thing you try however so good luck!

Warts And All Or Warts No More?

A famous saying by a famous man who wanted to be seen as he really was.
When Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England was being painted by the noted artist, Sir Peter Leley, he asked that any imperfections he had not be painted out, but rather he be portrayed “warts and all.” While he coined the phrase, many people began to use this phrase worldwide. The phrase has come to mean bearing everything and not hiding things from the world.
How The Phrase “Warts And All” Was Born
This phrase “warts and all,” was most likely inspired by a normal, common wart that Oliver Cromwell might have had. Warts are fairly common and can come in many forms and appear on various parts of the body. Plantar warts appear on the feet, genital warts appear on the genitals and other types of warts may appear on other areas of the body. While it is the job of the body’s immune system to regulate the spread of these warts, there are times that the body cannot handle the situation and a doctor should be seen to take care of it.
Wart freeze is a recommended method for wart removal
In treating warts and to prevent them from spreading it is recommended that the patient does not brush, comb, clip or shave the area where warts are located, and a nail clipper or nail file should not be used to pick at the warts. The patient should always wash their hands thoroughly after touching or tending to the wart. Treating warts is done in many ways. Some patients find relief by merely covering the wart with duct tape.

Other treatments are applying Salcyclic Acid, Canthradin or freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen. Doctors sometimes inject Bleomycin or Retinoids, which are derived from vitamin A. An intake of sulfur containing food like asparagus, citrus fruits, eggs, garlic and onions helps relieve and sometimes dry warts quickly and effectively.
Had Oliver Cromwell had all of today’s scientific improvements to help remove warts and cure the HPV virus, the phrase “warts and all” most likely would have never been born. This is because he would have had his warts removed and not had to worry about the unsightly blemishes. Different Types Of Warts

Warts are bumpy growths on the skin that typically appear in any body part. Wart growth is not considered as cancerous and is basically caused by the HPV or Human Papilloma Virus.
Getting Acquainted With Different Wart Types
Characteristics are usually similar with the person’s skin color and may oftentimes feel rough; some may exhibit a darkened color and is smooth when touched. When the virus has spread from one part of the skin to the other, it may also be transferred from person to person. Warts are usually of no concern because they tend to disappear after years or months although if not treated at once, one may experience concern on how unsightly the wart is.
To give you a better idea, below are the different types of warts.
1. Common warts
These are the types of warts that commonly occur at the back of toes, knees and even fingers which can be compared to a look similar to a cauliflower which is rough to touch. An amiable place for the growth of these warts is when there is a break on the skin; which is why these wart types are often found crowding near fingernails that are broken. Common warts are also called seed warts because of its feature of having a dot on top of the wart that is caused by blood vessel presence which makes the wart look exactly like seeds.
2. Plantar warts
From the name itself, plantar warts are usually found on the soles of the feet known as the plantar surface. These are the kinds of warts that do not seem to grow because of the pressure which is usually applied on the feet that is why; a larger part of the wart is found inside the skin. Plantar warts are also called as mosaic warts because of the cluster growth. Warts like these causes pain upon ambulating and tend to feel like stones under a shoe which can become a major problem especially if growth is uncontrolled.
3. Flat warts
Characterized to be small but grow in larger numbers, flat warts have a diameter that is in millimeters. When it comes to children, these warts have a smooth feel and are most likely to grow on their face. For adults, flat warts show in areas that are usually shaved like the leg and chin area. Flat warts are also known as plane warts.
4. Periungual warts
These warts are considered as the most painful wart one can experience. It causes so much pain and discomfort to the one who suffers from it. Usually, periungual warts are found near nails which are rough to touch. Deformity of the nail can happen once the virus enters the part under the nails and nest there. Sometimes, periungual wart virus has the capacity to enter the nail plate and cause the development of fungal infection and complications. As much as possible, treatment should be given in order to clear the skin from the infection and prevent further damage and complications.
There are different ways to eliminate warts. One must immediately excavate the wart from the skin because if the wart is not treated as soon as possible, instead of gradually disappearing after months of growth, it can lead to multiplication.
Warts are treated with different specific medical interventions like antibiotics, surgery and all other decreasing methods.
